Reimagined with a fresh design that elevates both accessibility and makes a stunning first impression, 22 Albert Road has undergone a makeover inside and out.
Paired with a suite of internal upgrades including, upgraded lift lobbies, new End-of-Trip facilities and an improved main entry lobby on the ground floor designed by KHID – the new external façade plays a pivotal role in unifying the aesthetic and enhancing the overall repositioning of the property.
The key idea behind the design stemmed from a functionality standpoint, integrating a new DDA-compliant lift which required a redesigned canopy. “This was a key factor in shifting our thinking towards a more wholistic design, where all elements of the frontage needed rethinking. From an aesthetic point of view, a seamless experiential transition between the external and the interior elements was key” said Carlos Lara, director of Lara Architects.
To create a cohesive design and provide a sense of continuity, DecoClad® V-Groove profile in DecoWood® Coastal Spotted Gum was used along the soffit lining of the entryway, bringing warmth whilst imitating the timber interior on the ground floor lobby.
“It was paramount to achieve clean and realistic timber finish for our project. The ground floor lobby renovation by KHID featured beautiful timber panelling and the DecoWood® Coastal Spotted Gum provided a wonderful colour match to create a seamless integration of the external and internal elements. We worked closely with the DECO team who were sensational in providing support, from assisting us in choosing the most suitable product for the different components of our project, up to advising the builder on best installation methods.”
DecoBatten® QuickClick® 50 x 50mm battens were used to provide screening around the gas metre room as non-combustible materials were a must, making DECO’s aluminium building products the perfect fit from a holistic design approach.
“Externally, timber elements require continuous maintenance, and it is very unlikely to be favoured in a commercial setting. We wanted to ensure to bring the warmth of timber to our project and at the same time ensure compliance with fire rating. The timber look aluminium will not lose its colour and allows us to ensure that our client has a low maintenance, fire rated element that at the same time brings beauty and user appeal, reaffirming the building’s identity and presence.”
DecoBatten® and DecoClad® in DecoWood® Coastal Spotted Gum finish provided a seamless result for 22 Albert Road, creating a modern arrival experience that reflects the building’s renewed identity.
