Sculptural Curves Define Boutique Duplex Living
Located in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, this boutique duplex explores how curved form and consistent material use can shape a cohesive multi-residential design. The project prioritises light, openness and clean detailing, resulting in a contemporary yet highly liveable home.
DecoBatten® plays a key role across the soffits, eaves and screens, where the timber-look battens follow the building’s curved geometry. Running continuously along the underside of the eaves, outdoor soffits and the expansive downstairs pergola ceiling, the 50 x 25mm timber-look battens reinforce the architectural lines while adding depth and visual continuity across both levels – all while leaving no visible fixings thanks to DecoBatten’s innovative QuickClick® two-piece system.
The 6.5m DecoBatten® profiles are particularly effective across the covered alfresco soffit, allowing the ceiling to seamlessly span larger areas with fewer joins and interruptions. By reducing visible breaks and simplifying installation, the battens create a clearly defined exterior living space while providing a durable aluminium soffit solution that combines performance with a sophisticated design feature.
Across the façade, the curved batten screen separating the two residences is a standout feature. Rather than a conventional divider, the vertical 50 x 50mm one-piece aluminium battens trace the same fluid lines as the building, creating privacy while maintaining a unified façade. The screen reads as an intentional architectural element, contributing to the duplex’s façade design rather than simply marking a boundary.
Combined with off-form concrete and crisp white render, the use of DecoWood® Coast Spotted Gum finish introduces warmth without the maintenance requirements of natural timber. The result is a controlled material palette where batten detailing supports the overall architectural form and delivers both function and visual impact.
