Located on a busy intersection in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, McDonald’s Preston II is a highly exposed site. With its north-facing facade and heavy pollutants from traffic on both Bell Street and St Georges Road, the restaurant required a highly durable product to withstand these conditions.
Since its installation in 2010, the DecoWood® slat façade has retained its natural timber appearance and continues to meet the Australian Standard for thermoset powder coatings (AS 3715), which permits only minimal fading over time. The grain structure remains intact, with some shaded areas still close to their original condition. Importantly, the aluminium remains structurally sound, and the DecoSlat® joins are strong and unchanged over time.
DecoWood® uses Super Durable™ Class 2 powders to produce its resilient finish, which undergoes extreme exposure testing to ensure it meets international quality standards. While direct UV radiation, salt spray and industrial pollutants are key factors that commonly deteriorate standard powder coating, DecoWood® continues to prove that it can withstand these conditions.
With minimal maintenance, McDonald’s Preston II shows all the signs of lasting for many years to come.
