Recreating an architectural, Balinese resort-style family home on New South Wales’ South Coast was always going to be a challenge for builders Build Platinum. Add in the client’s request for a low-maintenance building, and the challenge tripled.

Traditional Balinese tropical architecture utilises an abundance of natural materials, with timber being at the core of much of its design. However, with the property backing directly onto the beach and located within a high exposure environment, the need for long-lasting, durable materials was an essential part of project.

To achieve a natural timber look without any ongoing maintenance, DecoClad’s 180mm V-Groove aluminium cladding finished in DecoWood “Western Red Cedar” was selected for all external entry and alfresco ceilings. Selected not only for its natural woodgrain appearance and low maintenance features, the Super Durable™ DecoWood marine grade powder coating also offered extra durability due to the proximity to the ocean and salt spray.

As a solid aluminium cladding with no combustible core also meant that DecoClad was a fire safe alternative in the natural bush environment in which the building is situated.

With extremely intricate detailing required around structural steel elements, lighting and waterfall and water features along with parapet details, the builder still reported an easy installation process.
