Barnard House: Contemporary Façade Design

An adaptable, contemporary home with clean lines and earthy tones. Sitting attractively on the corner of a street in Alfred Cove, this resort-style home is not only pleasing to the eye, but also a dedicated “greeny”.

Showing us the importance of home orientation, cross-ventilation and how to utilise the sun for natural heating and lighting, the Barnard is no ordinary energy-efficient home. It is proudly environmentally conscious with solar panels and water-wise plumbing, whilst exuding architectural style.

The clients’ needs were simple: A custom design that complements its natural surroundings, incorporating high-performing sustainable products that can adapt to all environmental conditions.

Due to its corner block positioning, Daniel Lomma designed a façade that looked aesthetically pleasing from all views on the street. The exterior features an impressive mixture of timber-look battens with smooth and split-face masonry.

To achieve a natural timber look without ongoing maintenance, DecoBatten finished in DecoWood “Kwila” was selected for multiple applications around the home. Selected not only for its natural appearance, low maintenance and UV-stable features, the Super Durable™ marine grade powder coating also offered extra durability due to the proximity to the Swan River. Furthermore, DecoWood also provided a sustainable product that involves no logging, harmful greenhouse gases from paints/stains and is easily recycled.

The striking garage door features 46x25mm DecoBatten, creating warmth and style that synchronizes with the nature reserve across the road. Throughout the home 46x25mm two-piece and 50x50mm one-piece battens are utilised to create a contemporary architectural facade as well as privacy screening.
