Our Lady of Mercy

In 2023, Our Lady of Mercy College in North Parramatta unveiled a new, architecturally designed campus wing. Dating back to the late 1800s, the project’s master plan aimed to preserve the building’s rich history while creating modern spaces for students. Mayoh Architects meticulously selected products and finishes to maintain visual harmony with the surroundings whilst also enhancing the contemporary design ethos.

DecoPanel® was specified as a solution to the interior ceiling, offering a lightweight and non-combustible ceiling panel. The panels were chosen for their ability to seamlessly integrate with the original archways and structure, facilitating internal refurbishments in a way that respects the building’s heritage.

DECO’s NSW State Sales Manager, Stuart Jones worked closely with the architect, builder and installer to create a panel system that would suit their ceiling requirements.

“This project was really a collaborative effort that produced a great result.” says Stuart.

“Working through options and ideas with the designers and build team, we settled on 1500x1500mm panels with a custom perforated patten and finished in DecoWood® Coastal Spotted Gum. Being lightweight and easy to handle, the panels were simply lifted into place and faced fixed to the ceiling with black screws for a contrasting feature, and black acoustic foam was utilised behind the panels. Overall, the panels create an effective design and elevate the space for the students”.

Sustainability was central to the design, and DecoPanel® offered a range of sustainable advantages. Made from aluminium, a material known for its environmental benefits, it is 100% recyclable and retains its properties indefinitely through recycling. DecoPanel® is also manufactured locally using solar energy, ensuring minimal carbon footprint during production. Moreover, aluminium is naturally corrosion-resistant, and the Super Durable DecoWood® finish offers minimal maintenance with no harmful VOCs, further reducing environmental impact.
