When the original timber deck at Darwin’s Bayview Marina was due to be replaced, the Bayview Marina Body Corporate knew they needed an alternative that eliminated the issues involved with timber decking in this region.

The Bayview Marina is in an upmarket, picturesque part of Darwin, and therefore requires a deck that looks visually appealing and is marine grade quality. The project brief was a decking alternative to timber, that was highly durable, low maintenance and could withstand the harsh conditions of the tropical environment.

Timber and composites retain heat and are hot to walk on when subject to direct sunlight, an issue that the Darwin marina wanted to eliminate. When DECO presented DecoDeck® to the Body Corporate as an alternative decking solution that won’t burn your feet, scepticism was the main response. The Chairman insisted on installing DecoDeck® in his own home, to ‘test’ the product himself before committing. After being pleasantly surprised (and excited) that his deck had a beautiful timber appearance and was comfortable to walk on in the middle of a Darwin day, DecoDeck® was sold through Capral Aluminium as the marina’s new decking material.

DecoWood’s ‘Natural Casuarina’ finish was selected not only for its natural woodgrain appearance, but because of its Super Durable marine grade polyurethane powder coating that offers extra durability when near the ocean and salt spray. DecoDeck® has a P4 slip rating, making it suitable for a marina application.
